The Craniofacial Center of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital established in 1978, sees an average of 800 new patients with cranio-maxillo-facial deformities each year, possibly unrivalled anywhere in the world in its volume and scope of work. The wide range of craniofacial conditions seen at the Center includes orofacial clefts, secondary cleft deformities, aesthetic maxillofacial problems, and complex craniofacial deformities.

The Center offers a comprehensive spectrum of clinical expertise from the departments of plastic surgery, orthodontics, speech pathology, child psychology, medical documentation, and social work. Many of its members are highly respected leaders in cleft, maxillofacial and craniofacial surgery.

At any one time, there are several international visitors and fellows in the Center, contributing to a lively exchange of ideas and information.

The members of the Center actively participate in workshops and congresses, and have frequently been invited as visiting professors to many similar centers worldwide. Its frequent contributions in international publications attest to the high quality of clinical and research work undertaken at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

The Center works very closely with the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that serves needy patients. Every year the center organizes and undertakes at least six volunteer humanitarian missions of cleft surgery to neighboring countries.
